What is a Community Service Order?

A Community Service Order (CSO) can be imposed on offenders for reformation and for them to make amends to the community by performing unpaid community service under the supervision of an authorised officer.

In making this order, the court will determine if it will allow for the reformation of the offender. The court must be satisfied that based on the mental and physical condition of the offender, he is suited to perform community service. A report will be called by the court before making a community service order.

If the CSO is successfully completed, the criminal record will be considered ‘spent’ meaning that the offender is deemed to have no record of that conviction.
