5 months’ imprisonment for woman who conspired to cause grievous hurt to husband

A 27-year-old Singaporean woman, an administrative assistant, was sentenced to five months’ jail for conspiring with her 25-year old boyfriend, a delivery assistant, to cause grievous hurt to her 28-year old husband, a private-hire car driver.

Voluntarily causing grievous hurt is an offence under section 322 of the Penal Code (Cap 224) which states:


322. Whoever voluntarily causes hurt, if the hurt which he intends to cause or knows himself to be likely to cause is grievous hurt, and if the hurt which he causes is grievous hurt, is said “voluntarily to cause grievous hurt”.

A person convicted of this offence can be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine or to caning.
