Shoplifting Offence in Singapore – Examples of Mitigating Factors

Posted under News Updates, Videos on 8 January 2018

If you’re involved in a shoplifting offence in Singapore, this may relate to a criminal offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code in Singapore which can be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years and also a fine.

Your chances of asking the authorities to give you a warning or to take a less serious type of action against you are generally better if:

    • You’re a first-time offender with no previous convictions for similar offences
    • The items involved are of a low value
    • You make restitution of the value of the items
    • You show that you’re remorseful and you’ll not commit other offences in the future
