A 27-year-old Singaporean man, a former student at the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), was sentenced to 44 weeks jail after pleading guilty to one count of performing a sexual act on the man without his consent.
- The man pleaded guilty in the State Courts of Singapore.
- According to reports, the man committed the offences when he and the victim were roommates in the same hotel room during their visit to Singapore. The victim was sleeping when the man moved towards him and performed oral sex on him without his consent.
- The Court was told that the man took advantage of a situation where the victim was asleep and hence incapable of fending off the accused’s assault.
- It is unclear whether he was represented by a Criminal Defence Lawyer during the presentation of his mitigation plea and when the Court imposed the sentence.
Taking upskirt videos and insulting a woman’s modesty is an offence under section 377BA of the Penal Code (Cap 224) which states:
377BA. Whoever, intending to insult the modesty of any person, utters any word, makes any sound or gesture, or exhibits any object, intending that such word or sound will be heard, or that such gesture or object will be seen by such person, or intrudes upon the privacy of such person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.
